THREE STARS DARK SKY FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FIRST PUBLIC LAUNCH

Bamfield & Anacla, Vancouver Island, BC — The Three Stars Dark Sky Festival will make its first public debut May 8–10, 2026, inviting visitors to experience the night sky through astronomy, ocean science, art, and Indigenous knowledge on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Hosted by the Huu-ay-aht First Nations, the festival represents a significant step in a broader vision to protect and share the region’s dark skies while creating opportunities for cultural tourism, community gathering, and knowledge exchange.

Set in one of British Columbia’s most remote and awe-inspiring coastal environments, the festival brings together scientists, artists, Knowledge Keepers, and community members for a multi-day experience grounded in place and shaped by Huu-ay-aht values.

Programming includes telescope-guided stargazing, solar viewing demonstrations, immersive planetarium experiences, hands-on workshops, coastal science tours, and live performances. Together, these experiences explore the relationships between land, sea, and sky — connecting scientific understanding with cultural knowledge systems that have guided people for generations.

The festival also supports ongoing efforts toward dark sky preservation in the region, reinforcing the importance of protecting natural darkness as both an ecological and cultural resource.
